Thanks to advances in cloud computing and server virtualization, the cost of keeping these sites online is quite literally nothing. As a result, it's my intention to offer free web hosting services to individuals with websites dedicated to educating the fellow members of their respective hobby. Server costs will be offset by users with more commercial-oriented needs and my own pocket as I have a number of other projects that already justify the procurement of web hosting infrastructure.
The only caveat regarding this 'free' service is domain registration. The server hosts the website, but it's the domain that points visitors to the server. Domains must be registered through an official registrar and there are fees associated with registering, renewing, and transferring domains. As of this writing, all major domain extensions cost less $15/year in registration fees. It's my policy to not make money on domain registration, so the actual cost will be passed on directly to users. Of course, it's perfectly okay to have your domain registered elsewhere and still be using this service - all you'll need to do is update your domain's nameservers.
To get started, head over to the order page and select the "Free" hosting package. When ordering, be sure to include a detailed description of your site in the notes field. To qualify, your site must be hobby-oriented and be free of ads or revenue streams. Classified ads and the likes are okay as long as no commission is being charged. If you're site doesn't fall within those guidelines, there are still hosting packages available at a fraction of the cost of GoDaddy et al.
I hope this service can be of use to you, and please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
